Wood Carpet
Epirrhoe rivata

(Hübner, 1813) 1739 / 70.062

A rare and local resident.

A species of woodland rides, hedgerows, copses.

Overwinters as a pupa and adult comes sparingly to light.

Note Most claims of this species turn out to be Common Carpet. The white band is broader on the forewing and the grey line through the centre of it is very thin or absent, but can be stronger near the costa. The hindwing is often a clearer diagnostic with the white band also broader with no thin grey line. It may be that some of the records here are mis-identifications.
