An uncommon resident.

A species of open broadleaved woodland, parkland and larger gardens.

Overwinters as an adult and comes to light in small numbers but can be found on ripe blackberries in autumn and sallow catkins in the spring.

Note Pale Pinion is similar in shape and shares the thoracic and abdominal crests but they are not iridescent blue-black. Also Pale lacks the dark line in the trailing corner of the forewing.
