A very local and uncommon resident.

A species of moorland, upland woodland and hedgerows.

Flies in the sunshine and also at dusk.

Note Similar to Common Carpet but restricted habitat should preclude that species in many cases. Check too for chequered fringes to the wing which has browner markings too.
