A common resident everywhere.

Inhabits a wide variety of places.

Overwinters as a pupa while adults can be disturbed during the day and then fly from dusk and come to light.

Note Similar to Rivulet but in that species the white cross-band has a single indentation rather than a double one on its inner edge and rarely a fainter cross-line nearer the base.
