An uncommon to common species across the region.

Found mainly in gardens and amenity plantings where its foodplants grow.

Overwinters as an egg, adults fly mainly at dusk but also come readily to light.

Note A variable species but has a small discal spot and a pale area outside that with black dashes on the inner edge of the outer central cross-band. The dark inner cross-band passes through the discal spot. Melanics occur.
