A species of woodland and scrub and commonly in rural and suburban gardens.
Overwinters as a pupa, adults are attracted to light.
Note Compared to the much rarer Lunar Thorn it has a not so deeply scalloped hindwing and there is a dark mark on the outer side of the upper hindwing.
