A common resident across the region but one that has spread rapidly in the last 20-30 years.

Mainly a species of old broadleaved woodland, also scrub on downland and heathland.

Overwinters as a small larva, the adults come readily to light.

Note Dingy footman is similar but has a much broader and rounder-edged wing.
