A common resident found across the region.

Found in a wide range of habitats. Frequent in gardens.

Overwinters as a larva. The adults come to light and to sugar but also visit flowers.

Note most resembles Triple-spotted Clay but that species has a narrower wing and has a pinkish tinge. The hindwings of Double Square-spot are darker than in Triple-spotted Clay.
