An uncommon resident, mainly in the south.

A species mainly of damp habitats but does occur in some urban and suburban gardens.

Overwinters as a pupa and adults come to both light and sugar.

Note Similar to a number of species but the dark tooth-like mark in the centre of the wing which doesn't quite reach the third cross-line is distinctive.
