Varied Coronet
Hadena compta

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) 2170 / 73.282

A fairly common resident, especially in the east of the region.

A species of gardens and calcareous grassland.

Overwinters as a pupa while adults are attracted to light.

Note Marbled Coronet is similar but it is very restricted in its distribution so that should help. In Varied the white cross band is complete and meets the trailing edge whereas on Marbled it does not meet the trailing edge and therefore appears more oblique.

Recorded in 53 (38%) of 140 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1970.
Last Recorded in 2022.
