Anchoscelis lunosa

=Omphaloscelis lunosa

A very common resident.

Found in damp grassland, parkland, woodland and gardens.

Overwinters as a small larva. The adults come readily to light, sometimes in large numbers.

Note This is a very variable species and can be confused with Beaded Chestnut but in that species the orbicular and kidney marks are rather elongate or "squashed". If in doubt check for a dark fuzzy crescent moon on the upperside of the hindwing.

Recorded in 110 (79%) of 140 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1857.
Last Recorded in 2022.
