A common resident found throughout.

The map shows the distribution of adults identified by dissection or as larvae.

Found in a range of habitats.

Overwinters as a pupa with the adults coming readily to light.

Note Adults of Grey and Dark Daggers cannot be distinguished other than by dissection but the larvae can be separated with care.

In Grey Dagger larvae the hump is larger than on Dark Dagger; there are two red dashes on each segment whereas there are three on Dark Dagger and the warts on each segment appear as dark spots whereas on Dark Dagger they are white (Roy Leverton).

Verification Grade Comment: Adults require dissection.
