Saturniidae

A big moth with very broad fore and hindwings having large conspicuous discocellular eye spots, strongly sexually dimorphic, and with robust densely hairy body. Males actively day flying and assembling to females over large distances. Larva plump and fleshy with each segment with a row of spiny tubercles. Pupa in a tough brown silken cocoon.
