A rare resident, largely restricted to heaths with scattered birch trees.

Mines the leaves of Birch Betula spp., with larvae feeding in two generations in July and then in September/October. Forms an irregular gallery mine, only slightly contorted at the start and with irregular linear frass. There are often several mines in a single leaf, usually on Birch seedlings or small bushes. The larva mines venter upwards, with a characteristic line of dark ventral spots.
