Fairly common resident.

Associated with Birch Betula spp., with adults in March and April and larvae mining in May. Adults can be swept from twigs and foliage of Birches.

A blotch mine starting from the leaf edge, with long strands of grass. Occupied mines are easily recognised by the distinctive grey larva, whilst the discarded grey larval skin may be visible in vacated mines.
