Calamotropha paludella

(Hübner, 1824)1292 / 63.079

A local but expanding species of fens, gravel pits and marshes.

Larvae feed in late summer and autumn in a mine on the leaf of Reedmace and burrow towards the base where they hibernate. In the spring they mine a dead leaf or stem. The pupa resides in the mine.

The adults fly over water at dusk then later again at night when they will come to light.
