A fairly recent arrival with a local distribution.

A species of coniferous forests and mixed woodland where the larvae feed on the bark of living pines.

Note Dioryctria is a difficult genus and while superficial characters can be used, dissection may be required. This species is generally the largest but overlaps with the commoner D. abietella.
