Associated with Silver Fir. Spends two winters in the larval phase and the eggs are probably oviposited in the needles. In the first winter the larvae hibernate inside hollowed-out needles before dropping down to the leaf-litter in the spring and making a case from cut-outs of leaves. The case is variable in construction and size, from 9–11 mm. there the larvae feed on the algae coating dry branches as well as
occasionally fresh plant leaves; Dandelion Taraxacum has been mentioned. The larvae then have an active feeding phase in the second spring prior to pupation with the adults emerging from May to July.
