Fairly common but local resident in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Larvae feed on Lepraria lichens. Flies in July with larva feeding from April to June, in thin silken tubes covered with lichen.

Found on shaded rocks and walls, and occasionally on tree trunks and stumps where the grey green, powdery lichen grows. Larval tubes are extremely well camouflaged and are not easy to spot. Occasionally, bare substrate at the ends of the tubes where the lichen has been grazed away can make them more obvious.

Sometimes occurs in numbers on a favoured tree trunk. Imagines rarely seen.
