Bedellia somnulentella

(Zeller, 1847)264 / 24.001

Transient resident and migrant.
Flies August and October to May, imago hibernating.
Larvae on Convolvulus arvensis and occasionally Calystegia sepium and Ipomaea spp. feeding in July/August and September at first in a gallery with black frass, then making fresh white blotch mines in a leaf, ejecting the frass which is often caught in strands of silk under the leaf. The larva is white with purple spots.
Seems to be completely absent for a number of years, but occasionally mines become locally common, presumably after an invasion of migrants. Sometimes they overwinter and persist for a year or two:

Mine: Either the leaf or a good photograph required
