Coleophora juncicolella

Fairly common but very local resident, confined to ares of heathland and heathy woodland.

Calluna vulgaris, with larva mining leaves from September to April, in a very small case of heather leaves, resembling a small piece of a dead shoot. Almost impossible to find by searching but easily obtained by sweeping the foodplant and keeping the resultant debris in a container, where the cases crawl up the sides and become visible.
