Usually a fairly common resident, but varying markedly in numbers from year to year.

Most easily recorded from leaf mines on Salix fragilis, S. alba, S. viminalis, S. babylonica, S. pentandra and S. purpurea with larva feeding in June / July and September / October. In a contorted gallery mine sometimes forming a terminal blotch.
