Very common resident.

Mining the leaves of Quercus spp. with larva feeding in July and from September to November. In a gallery mine with variably dispersed frass; in the summer generation with a short line of thick frass, but often in a longer mine with linear frass in the autumn (cf. mine of S. robella). Ovum may be on either side of the leaf.
