Adelidae

12 species. Wingspan 8-21mm.

Day flying or crepuscular moths, some brightly coloured with metallic scales or fasciae. They have very long antennae, particularly the males. Some form mating swarms in sunshine or semishade on and around trees and shrubs. Others fly from late afternoon to dusk or at dawn.

Ova are laid in flower heads or shoots. Later their larvae live in portable cases on the ground made from silk and leaf fragments feeding on basal and dead leaves of the foodplant or in general leaf litter.
