31 species. Wingspan 7-11mm.
Small moths most of whose larvae mine in the leaves and stems of grasses and sedges from the autumn into the spring, leaving their mines to pupate on a stem or leaf attached by a silken girdle or under a flimsy silken web. Most are univoltine but some are bivoltine having a second generation mining in July. The imagines fly in the early morning or in the evening, usually low down close to the ground. They can sometimes be swept from grasses, sedges and nearby shrubs and come to light traps.
